Five years ago, my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She was once the most vivacious, sociable, and wonderfully wacky person I knew—always cracking jokes and lighting up a room. Now, she is non-verbal and completely dependent on others for care. Watching her lose her independence has been heartbreaking.
But what frustrates me most is how avoidable some of these struggles could have been—if only her home had been designed to support her changing needs earlier.
As an architect, I’ve encountered the same issue time and time again. When designing accessible spaces—whether public toilets in art galleries or private homes—the options for accessible homeware are shockingly poor. Most products feel clinical, cold, and like an afterthought, rather than an intentional, beautiful part of the home. No one wants their living space to feel like a hospital, yet for those who need accessibility, there are few alternatives.
That’s why I created Nested —to change the way we think about accessible homeware forever.
Our designs are not just functional—they’re beautiful, high-quality, and customisable. We believe accessibility should be a priority, not a last-minute regulation tick-box. Our products help people future-proof their homes without compromising on style, dignity, or comfort. Because accessibility should never feel like an imposition—it should be something to be proud of.
Let’s make accessibility aspirational. Let’s design homes that empower, not restrict.
